Awesome! I am planning to make a nice $780 PC... I have a dvd drive and a nice wd caviar black hdd already, and 6gb of ddr3 ram. I plan to get an xfx radeon hd 7970, I forgot the motherboard, its something crossfire V, then I am getting a 8 core AMD FX 8150 Black Edition (Unlocked) 3.6-4.2GHz Cpu.

prob took me around 6-8 hrs the first time. but if i had to do it all over again would prob only take like me like 3 hrs. Haha and you should be inspired as this was only my FIRST true mod. i hardly knew nothing about modding before this. My previous pc was an ordinary Dell Dimension with nothing but a white solid case.

i initially wanted my mod to look like a car....even added fins at the back and an exhaust pipe attached to the power supply LoL but i removed them in cos it started to looking a little too menancing (plus such a waste of petrol LOL).

Looks like most of this hardware could run a small car. Amazing PC, you should be proud of what you built :D I sure would if I made that beast :XD:

Great shots too ;)

actually, a three days ago or so i updated vista to service pack 2, and lo and behold i noticed everything is so much faster now...opening up files, games, even the internet is way more responsive. i had compatability issues with installing hardware a year ago wen i went with vista for the first time, but now that has all cleared up. Seriously vista isnt as bad as most people say that it is..and with my system specs vista runs brilliantly with no problems.

oh right, well yeah i guess anything you run on that rig will run smooth. Did that cost 10k American or Canadian? I'm from the UK if that sounded like a stupid question lol

ah nice, works out to about 5k in GBP.

out of interest, how many years do you reckon it will be before you need to upgrade/build a new behemoth?

hmmm my friends asked me that same question...i really dunno ...the last time i built a new pc i only spent a meagre $1200 AUS on it and it could play games smoothly for the next 2 years. in the 3rd year i noticed some games were pushing my system and in the 4th it started being slow again. Considering i bought the i7 and an i7 motherboard pretty much on release im assuming my system will be able to play all games smoothly for at least the next 3 years. after that i'd prob notice a slowdown wen more demanding games come through. i'd prob start building a new pc in the 4th year. then again it really depends on how much i play games really since im playing less and less now and using my pc more for graphics and movies (which means i'd prob b able to keep my pc for a good 5years).

What a monster :XD:

I think it might last you at least 5 years without any major hardware upgrades. BTW I'm curious about the first picture, what does it monitor? Hard drive temperatures and speed?
Reply
:iconiamthewizard2:
iamthewizard2 Featured By Owner Feb 7, 2009
there are like 18 or so fans in this beast and all of them are controlled (i.e fan speed rpm) by the monitor knobs at the front. the bays also monitor inside temperature of different components.

:iconiamthewizard2:
iamthewizard2 Featured By Owner Feb 7, 2009
sorry my mistake there r 18 fans but only 9 of them r controlled at the front not all 18 as i mentioned

never thought about water cooling?
what about the noise???
Reply
:iconiamthewizard2:
iamthewizard2 Featured By Owner Jun 7, 2009
yeah it is noisy at times but ive chosen pretty much all silent based fans which all run at 19decibels or less plus i set the fan speed down using the controllers and it aint too bad after that. Did think about water cooling but in the end i didnt go with cos i'd never experience water cooling b4, and thought it may be a little messy to have all the tubes go around + have a exterior radiator. I wasnt too keen also on it since i could already achieve a decent OC with good air cooling too
